When we talk about training, we are talking about identifying, offering, and participating in training that will help us gear up to finish the task of world evangelism. For the person traveling overseas (to work directly with an unreached people group), this includes everything from the spiritual transformation component, principles and methods of learning another language, and even a plan for sharing Christ with locals. This plan needs to be locally authentic; it needs to make sense to the local “missing” people (those who have not yet joined the church) and still make sense to those who already embrace Christianity. In addition, many workers will need a plan that includes a “platform,” i.e., a business plan for a ‘job’ or a new company that will permit the entire team (or multiple businesses that will support multiple groups within the team) to gain entry and maintain a long-term, viable presence.
For those who are the “senders,” the partners making possible the work itself, the training needs to include the biblical background of missions, an understanding of the heart of God for the nations, and a basic knowledge of mobilization and prayer support for the worldwide work of the Kingdom.
